Kyo-sensu/Folding Fans: Yasuto Yonehara (Gold Leaf Artisan)
The workshop has specialised in the foil-stamping of Kyoto fans for nearly 100 years and for four generations, and the craftsmanship is carried out while considering what value the tradition of fan foil-stamping can offer to modern society.
The representative work, the gold-painted folding fan with foil design series, was selected by foreigners living in Japan for OMOTENASHI Selection 2022 as a product overflowing with the spirit of hospitality.
Foil stamping, one of Japan's most representative expressions of luxury, has been handed down to the present day in its design and techniques as a means of visualising luxurious and gorgeous expressions and emotional expressions such as 'apology,' 'mono no ahare' and 'yugen' that Japanese people have always considered beautiful.
The company also aims to pass on the virtues of Japan to future generations by dealing in commercial products that meet modern needs, such as homeware, building materials and artwork decorated with foil, by accepting and combining new materials and the development of technology.
